As we celebrated former Pittsburgh Pirates great Willie Stargell on what would have been his 83rd birthday this past March 6th I would share on the Ballpark Chasers FB page a couple of pics I took of his statue outside the left field entrance at PNC Park in June 2021.
The other pic I would share would be of me in front of Pops Stargell. Donning my Dodger Blue a couple of fans on the Chasers page would point out that he’s the only player whose round trippers have left Dodger Stadium twice.
They would be 2 of 6 homers to this day ever clear Dodger Stadium. Of the 6 home runs to leave The Ravine I have witnessed two of them, Mark McGwire on May 22, 1999 and Giancarlo Stanton on May 12, 2015.
The Pirate HOFer would play his entire 22 year career with the Bucs.
